Watervrij calciumchloride is wit poreus frit of deeltje. Het is gemakkelijk om te deliquesce. Het smeltpunt is 782 ℃, de dichtheid is 2,15 g/cm3, het kookpunt is hoger dan 1600 ℃, oplosbaar in water en veel warmte vrij, ook oplosbaar in ethanol en aceton. Common is calciumchloride hexahydraat cacl2 · 6h2o, kleurloze tripartiet kristal, gemakkelijke deliquescentie, met bittere zoute smaak.
