PPGI is een voorgeschoten stalen spoel, ook bekend als pre-gecoat staal, spoelcoat staal, kleurgecoate staal enz., Meestal met een hete dip gegalvaniseerd stalen spoelsubstraat.
Zink gecoat stalen substraat voor PPGI wordt meestal geproduceerd op een continue galvaniserende lijn (CGL). De CGL kan een schildergedeelte omvatten na de hot dip galvaniserende sectie, of vaker wordt het metalen gecoate substraat in spoelvorm verwerkt op een afzonderlijke continue verflijn (CPL). Metallic gecoat staal wordt gereinigd, voorbehandeld, aangebracht met verschillende lagen organische coatings die verf, vinyldispersies of laminaten kunnen zijn. Het continue proces dat wordt gebruikt om deze coatings toe te passen, wordt vaak spoelcoating genoemd
Het spoelcoatingproces kan worden gebruikt voor andere substraten zoals aluminium, of aluminium, roestvrij staal- of lichtmetalen gecoat staal dan "zuiver" zinkcoat staal. Alleen "puur" zinkcoat -staal wordt echter meestal PPGI genoemd. PPGL kan bijvoorbeeld worden gebruikt voor vooraf geschilderde 55%AL/Zn-legeringscoat staal (voorschilderde Galvalume (R) Galvalume Steel Coil)
